Islington residents sent over 100 responses to the North Central London Integrated Care Board protesting the planned closure of the maternity unit at either the Whittington or the Royal Free on Saturday, 9 March 2024. They also sent postcards to a range of MPs, asking them to pledge to restore our people’s NHS. It was all part of the Day of Action called by our national organisation, Keep Our NHS Public.
There is still time to reply to the consultation on maternity services. The deadline is 17 March, 2024. We believe there should be investment in both units, but if forced to choose, reluctantly opt for the Whittington as it seems to promote less health inequality. For more information on the different ways to respond, and a sample letter, see our article.
We had stalls at the Nag’s Head shopping centre.

And the Angel.

Volunteers from Acorn, the community union, helped us spread the word.
